Local Coaching Networks
Local Coaching Networks
Putting the right coaches, with the right qualifications, in the right place at the right time, to meet participant needs in local areas.
The 49 Local Coaching Networks in England are designed to support coaches coming through governing body coaching programmes. They help implement governing body coaching plans locally and attract local resources to coaching.
Coaching Development Managers (CDMs) - employed by each of the 49 County Sports Partnerships in England - are responsible for developing the networks, which include representatives from:
- sports clubs
- county associations
- county sports partnerships
- private coaching providers
- School Sport Partnerships
- Local Authorities
- Higher Education Institutes
- Further Education Colleges.
Similar networks exist, or are being put in place, in the other Home Countries.
The networks provide:
Frontline coach support: recruiting and employing/deploying coaches; managing and developing coaches, regulating coaching in the local area
Broad coaching support: facilitating communication channels for local partners; providing access to coaching intelligence ‘from the coalface’; advocating coaching locally
Coaching system support: establishing where there are gaps in the local coaching system; understanding the needs of sport-specific coaches in the area.
