Interim Report on FE professionalism
The Government’s reform agenda not just for the FE sector but for the public sector as a whole has raised a number of concerns about how current workforces are trained, supported and registered. In FE’s case, there’s been a fairly long and convoluted push to professionalise the workforce by introducing new programmes for trainee lecturers, developing new full and associate teaching roles, setting new professional development requirements and creating a new registration body. As the Review has concluded, with the emphasis now on de-regulation, performance outcomes and more flexible workforces, this Review, deliberately independent, was called in to help untangle current arrangements and create the conditions for a more modern workforce.
