FUNdamentals of Movement Workshops Case Study
"I have no hesitation in recommending the FUNdamentals of Agility, Balance and Coordination workshops. I came away with new ideas and drills to use in my training sessions and learned to be more aware of how I can actively develop a child’s agility, balance and coordination to improve their enjoyment and performance – no matter what sport they are playing!"

How Attending the FUNdamentals of Movement Workshops Benefited Andy Somers’ Coaching
Who: Andy Somers
Title: Coach at Manchester FA Girls Development Centre U13s and Workforce Development Officer, Manchester Football Association
Why I Chose to Attend these Workshops:
"In my previous role at Merseyside Sports Partnership, we had hosted the FUNdamentals of Movement workshops. I thought they were great and wanted to learn more about the benefits of incorporating Agility, Balance and Coordination into my coaching sessions. In addition, in my role as Workforce Development Officer at Manchester Football Association, I thought it would be beneficial for me to attend so I could gain a full understanding of how our coaches would benefit when we organised the workshops for them."
How the Workshops have Impacted on my Coaching:
"The workshops have had a big impact on my coaching; they developed my awareness of the FUNdamentals of Movement and encouraged me to think about how I can include the elements in my training sessions. I discovered that even within the narrow age range that I coach (9–13 year olds), I can adapt the way I coach and change my approach to better suit the specific developmental needs of children of different ages."
Why I Would Recommend these Workshops:
"I think these workshops really help coaches increase their awareness of what Agility, Balance and Coordination are, and the impact the coach can have in these areas for a child’s development.
"As a result of attending, I:
- gained new ideas on new ways to approach my coaching sessions
- learned to think about coaching the whole range of movement in a child, rather than just football-specific drills
- discovered how to make each of my sessions include activities that will develop a child’s agility, balance and coordination.
"Crucially, the workshops offer an in-depth look at not only how to design drills and activities to improve a child’s skills, but also why – the importance of this development and the positive impact it can have."
