Positive Behaviour Management in Sport Workshop Case Study

How Attending this Workshop Benefited Yvonne Mills

Yvonne

Who: Yvonne Mills

Where: Heywood BMX track

Title: Club Secretary

Why I Chose to Attend this Workshop:

"The Club Chairman and I felt that it would be beneficial for me to attend the workshop as our facility is in a public park and we were regularly witnessing some challenging behaviour at the track, for example, deliberate damage and littering.

"It was the perfect workshop to attend so that I could understand how to better deal with this behaviour."

How the Workshop has Impacted on my Coaching:

"My approach to young people has changed in that the workshop has made me more aware of the environment in which the track is based and the types of people that use our facilities. I try not to jump to conclusions or judge the young people any more.

"In addition, as a result of the workshop, I decided to involve the children more. Consequently, the children are modifying the code of conduct, which means that they are fully involved in the process. Antisocial behaviour has decreased and the park is now being respected – at the start of the sessions, we encourage our group to maintain the area, litter pick etc."

"This was one of the best workshops that I have attended. I would without a doubt recommend it to other coaches as antisocial behaviour at our club has decreased as a result of the learning."

Why I Would Recommend this Workshop:

"This was one of the best workshops that I have attended. It made me think about young people in a different light and take a step back to look at it from their point of view. I was then able to try and analyse why they had behaved a certain way rather than categorising them negatively.

"I would without a doubt recommend this workshop to other coaches. It helps you to reflect on your coaching and share ideas on good practice as well as encouraging links with other clubs."
